From an old haggard political reformer, who believes in campaign finance reform such as public financing of campaigns:

All stops are pulled again this year for big money contributions by the corporations and wealthy, both in state races and federal. Unless you want war in money-raising by using FEC opinions, be prepared to be outflooded with mass media advertising by your opponents (and their supporters) this fall, especially close to election day; and look for dirtier stuff as November closes in (questionable campaign financial activity). Even if you decide to play the game, look for the big money to follow the most probable winner in the race revealed by this fall, so they can boost their candidates to the finish line first. The winners will thank their grassroots supporters, and turn around and reward their big money contributors with legislation. This will start a vicious cycle of pay-to-play full-time campaign financing activities by the officeholders to stay in power.
