New links module in lefthand sidebar

Government reform orgs. deliver news on major events within their areas of expertise.
From: All Things Reform

Campaigns by Government Reform Orgs.

We are pleased to add a new module to this blog's lefthand sidebar- Campaigns by Government Reform Organizations. It is a list of links to special, ongoing projects from a variety of groups that accept volunteering by the general public; they are often given their own dedicated web site and web server address.

These online campaigns are deemed of sufficient importance that they are treated as stand-alone projects within their respective orgs. Volunteering is continuously requested as the public interest groups manage these projects to their desired conclusions- you may get involved at any time and have an appreciated role in any of the campaigns' tasks.

BBV ALERT: "The Count" starts in 2 days: Instructions for Protect the Count

Black Box Voting was asked by YouTube to prepare an easy to follow public education program for Protecting the Count on ELECTION NIGHT and the days that follow. We collaborated with Videothevote.org and Election Defense Alliance. YouTube has created a Channel called Video Your Vote. The Black Box Voting Protect the Count series contains important information and several video clips never before made public.

Please distribute immediately and as widely as you can. EASY INSTRUCTIONS: View the videos that best fit your location.

1. Protect the Count - most locations in America(4 min)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3_xFb1sWKU
Takes 90 minutes on Election Night. You can even go out after polls have closed. Please also view video # 3, because it shows what to look for to identify tampered poll tapes and the kinds of small errors on tapes that can appear with memory card tampering. Upload any video you take to http://www.videothevote.org - Post link or comments for what you found in the state and jurisdiction at http://www.blackboxvoting.org

2. Protect the Count - Absentee / Central Count (8 min)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZp3rA1XXjw
(Applies to 13 states with CENTRALLY COUNTED ballots and/or HEAVY ABSENTEE VOTING)
These are the most challenging Protect the Count locations.

3. Protect the Count - New England / New Hampshire(5 min)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CV4M12w6tY4
If you live anywhere in New England and can drive to any voting machine location in New Hampshire to observe and video poll closing, please do so. If you live anywhere in America that has polling place results tapes, please look at this video to see what tampered tapes look like.
Contact Protect the Count - New Hampshire organizers at protectthevote@gmail.com
You can view the list for which New Hampshire locations use voting machines here:
http://www.bbvforums.org/forums/messages/157/157.html

4. Protect the Count - New York (9 min)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmSn4qLdgbU
New Yorkers are probably in the best shape for Election 2008, but not for long. This shows the details of how the counting of the lever machines proceeds after polls close, and gives you the details of the fight New Yorkers will have on your hands in 2009.

I'm counting on you to be as proactive as possible to fight for your voting rights. The actions in the Protect the Count series are self-serve, simple to do, and designed for just grabbing a neighbor or a buddy and taking action. Don't worry about blanketing every area or organizing the whole state. Just pick a place and DO it. I guarantee it will be a fascinating and important experience, and could provide THE crucial evidence in the very undesirable event that the election turns out not to be fair.

29 voter volunteer opportunities on All Things Reform!

Government reform orgs. deliver news on major events within their areas of expertise.

As General Election Day- Tuesday, November 4th- approaches, many public interest groups have stepped up to serve we, the people- the voters. This nation has already seen allegations of abuses from both major political parties. These volunteer jobs available right now address many types of election problems and help voters enjoy a smooth, trouble-free voting experience.

All Things Reform has a list of these volunteer opportunities in the lefthand column of this blog. Just find what you are most interested in, and go to those web sites for instructions on how you can help. Most voters will cast their ballots on Tuesday, but our help is needed right now for early and absentee voters, and to prepare for helping on General Election Day.

Get involved now, and above all, vote! Thanks

More voter volunteer opportunities! Get involved!

All Things Reform now has even more voter volunteer opportunities in its lefthand column. A second list for it was made, because Blogger.com, the host blog service from Google, has broken feed modules. Nevertheless, there are still links in the lists that take you right to the volunteer opportunities.

General Election Day is coming upon us- it will be on Tuesday, November 4th, next week. Above all, please vote; the volunteer opportunities listed here include tweeting your voting problems and video recording and uploading your experience. There are many more opportunities that you can engage in, the most important of which is being a poll worker (please sign up soon!) and poll watcher.

Blog Action Day: Make a difference for poverty regions of the U.S. this Election Day

This upcoming November 4th, 2008, a Tuesday, voters from all across the country will cast their ballots at the polling places for their favorite candidates. Even though we Americans have liked to think we have the best democracy in the world, there will be many problems experienced that day in some areas, such as voter disenfranchisement, poor resources and training of poll workers, and poor management of ballots. However, there are things we all can do to help.

We all know that the present political system in the USA is dominated by only two parties: the Democrats and the Republicans. In this winner-take-all electoral system, the battle between the two party nominees become increasingly heated as General Election Day nears. Big money ad campaigns from independent groups have at times been devastating so close to Nov. 4th. In particular, the Republican Party's activists have misled potential voters in poverty-stricken areas, and both parties' members and non-members alike have vandalized and stolen campaign signs. It is clear that a non-partisan election head official for each state- the Secretary of State- should preside during this time and election day. Let us tell our state representatives we need Secretaries of State not endorsed by any political party.

This year, we all will experience a large increase in voter turnout when compared to previous General Election Days. Polling stations, particularly some in low income regions, experience long lines of voters and sometimes poorly-trained poll workers, due to a lack of necessary resources in money and manpower. There is still time, however, to become a trained poll worker and get paid for your busy day on Nov. 4th- please visit Pollworkers for Democracy for instructions on how you can help.

On recent General Election Days, we have seen mismanagement of filled voter ballots in some states- particularly in 'swing' states where the vote between the two leading candidates was very close. The movement of the ballots to county headquarters had human errors. The conduct of actually counting the ballots lacked training and oversight. You can, however, help by volunteering to count the ballots or be a poll watcher. Election Defense Alliance (ballot-counting) and your local elections office (poll watching) can describe these duties and show how you can participate.

Low-income and poverty-stricken regions have experienced these and more problems and challenges in recent elections. It is all Americans', and especially civic-minded Secretaries of State and political party members' duty to see that fairness in allocation of resources and trained poll workers is experienced in all regions of the country. With the help of poll workers and volunteers this upcoming General Election Day, Tuesday, November 4, 2008, we can enjoy a more productive and pleasant voting experience for low-income citizens and everyone involved.

Sign up to be a poll worker for General Election Day Tuesday, November 4, 2008

Government reform orgs. deliver news on major events within their areas of expertise.
From: Election Protection

We've seen it over and over again: undertrained poll workers causing problems that lead to voters being disenfranchised.

When poll workers don't know what to do when machines break down, misunderstand state law about voters showing photo ID, or can't explain their state's ballot correctly - or when there simply aren't enough of them - votes are lost.

There's an answer to the problem: you.

We've partnered with Credo Mobile to recruit our non-legal members to be poll workers for Election Day 2008.

Click here to sign up to be a poll worker today!

It's simple and easy: enter your zip code, press join, and you'll be guided through the process. With a full day of your time, you can have a tremendous impact.

Having enough poll workers to handle high turnout on Election Day couldn't be more important - but we're running out of time to recruit the poll workers we need. That's why I'm hoping you will sign up to be a poll worker in this year's election today!

Strengthen our great democracy by becoming a poll worker.

Poll workers are a vital part of a fair, accountable, election in which every voter can cast their ballot and have it counted.

Election Protection is recruiting legal volunteers - but if you don't have a legal background, becoming a poll worker is a fantastic way to help ensure a fair and efficient election. Please consider becoming an official poll worker.

Sincerely,

Jonah Goldman

P.S. Do you have a legal background? Do you want to protect voters, from now through Election Day? Click here to volunteer for Election Protection 2008.

Volunteerism is good for our nation's quality of life

One of the great legacies of President John F. Kennedy was the Peace Corps; young people heeded the call for community service, and in subsequent decades provided critical care to the needy the world over. There is no reason why this spirit of helping one another can't be inspired again by our nation's leaders at all levels of government.

Today, a very active charity is the American Diabetes Association (ADA). It is the nation's leading health non-profit organization supporting diabetes research, information and advocacy. Freedom of association has always been vibrant in America, and the ADA is a successful example of inspired volunteerism.

There are many ways to serve your community, depending on the gifts and talents God has blessed you with. Do your part to support others that are in certain areas of life not as fortunate, whether that be health, family, education or any other quality of life.
